William Hubert's Story

William Hubert Turner was by granddad.

On Armistice Day, when everyone else was singing and dancing in the streets, all my grandmother could think was that she hadn’t heard from Billy for a long time – so she sent a telegram to his commanding officer. She had a reply back from him saying that granddad was all right but in hospital having been gassed. Although the legacy of that gassing was to stay with him for the rest of his life he did come home.
