James's Story
Having joined the Territorial Army, he was called up early for active service and left for the front on 1st May 1915. He died of wounds in a casualty clearing station hospital on Friday April 14th 1916.
His seven days leave was due the week after he died, this would have been his first leave since going to France.
Jim, who was 20 years old, was the second son of Mr & Mrs Martin Moran, Blairgowrie, Perthshire. His older brother Hugh Moran, was also on active service abroad with the Royal Engineers, thankfully survived the war. Both Jim and Hugh set off for France in 1915 on the same ship.
