Jabez Smith a Skertonian who lived in Alexandra Rd, Lancaster. Was reported as missing on the 8th May 1915. Jabez was involved in the battle for Frezenberg Ridge with the 2nd Battallion Kings Own Royal Lancaster regiment.
His brother Tom Smith who was serving in the 5th Battallion K.O.R.L.R. failed to find any information regarding his brother.
Jabez was a Fireman with the Midland Railway Co and Join up in Jan 1915. He was reported has having served two training sessions with the Royal Lancaster Militia and within 6 weeeks was drafted to the Front .
He left a wife Nellie (nee Ross) and 2 daughters and one unborn daughter, not a son as reported in the Lancaster Observer.
Esther ,Edith and Edna.
His Widow Nellie and her 3 daughters stayed at Ingleton with her Parents but eventualy moved to Nottingham and lived in Lenton in Jasmin Cottage.
Jabez is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial and his name and Long Number is on Panel 12 Just inside the gateway High up.
