Leonard Lanttaf's Story

Leonard was a member of a large family, having 7 sisters and 4 brothers, one of whom, Stanley, who was also killed in WW1 in July 1917. He was a compositor by profession and had married his wife Kate in 1914. He firstly joined the Yorkshire Regiment, but then joined the 13th Bn. King's Liverpool Regiment. He was probably fightin in the Battle of the Hindenburg Line, and in particular in the Battle of the Canal Du Nord, which took place the end of September 1918, when he was injured and taken to the Australian Hospital at Abbeville, France, where he later died. He was laid to rest in Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension in France. He left a 2 year old son, Reginald. His records are unfortunately some of the 'burnt ones' having been destroyed by bombing in WW2.
