George's Story

This is my Uncle George Ovenden born 1894. He served with 9th Lancers from 14th December 1909 until 2nd April 1919. After leaving the Lancers he joined the West Midlands Police serving 25 years, retiring in 1944. Most of his Police was served in the Mounted Section. He passed away in 1977. George is also pictured with his Brother William Charles Ovenden Killed in Action 20th January 1918 ( also remembered on the Wall) along with a letter he wrote to the family explaing how his Brother 'Will' was killed.
