William's Story
William, from Balbriggan, Co Dublin, was in Scotland at the outbreak of WW1. He had a baby son and a daughter on the way. He went to France in September 1914, never to return to his wife Jane in Glencarse near Perth.
He was killed in Houpline, near Amentieres on October 14th 1914 and is burried just over the border in Belgium.
He was 33 years old.
William was in a recent copy of Stand To (The Western Front Association Magazine), as it is thought he was the Lion of Houplines. The article also appeared in the Fingal Independent Newspaper.
Even though we never knew him, his decision to come to Scotland with his brother Patrick in 1901, is why we are the family we are today.
