Arthur's Story

Enlisted at Hounslow on February 22nd 1915 aged 31 and only 5 foot 1 inch tall ! Deployed to France in September with the Royal Sussex Regiment. After 291 days of active service he was sent back to hospital in Gloucester suffering from rheumatic fever and the after effects of exposure to gas. Discharged from the in August 1917, he died in 1940 as a direct result of the impact the war had made on his health.
