Fred had been a professional soldier joining up 20/8/1904. He served in India, here where he undertook a Physical Training examination which qualified him to act as an instructor, This he passed on 28/10/1908, with a 1st class degree of proficiency. At the outbreak of WW1, he had left the Army but was still in the reserves. He married Florence Amelia in July 1914, a few weeks later he was called to Arms. After a surviving a few battles, he manage to return to the UK to see his daughter who was born in May 1915. Alas that was the one & only time. He fell on 3/3/1916 near Ypress.
