Tom's Story
I don't remember my grandfather because he died during the second world war but I remember my mother saying he fought at Ypres. He was a Yorkshire miner and enlisted in 1914. He was in the second battle of Ypres. My mother said he was gassed and he also caught typhoid fever and was sent back to England in 1915. He never worked again and wasn't the same man as a result of his illness and the effects of gas.
