Harrie Stephen's Story

During the First World war he served as a Despatch rider and then as an Observer. In 1916 First Class Air Mechanic Harwood was stationed at St Omer in France and, together with 3 others, was awarded the Albert Medal for gallentry at a bomb store. He worked for the North Staffordshire Railway after the war but joined the RAF in 1940. He was demobilised in early 1947 in the rank of Flight Lieutenant.
