Frederick Albert's Story

My Grandfather was born in Finedon, Northamptonshire on 10 March 1895 - the eldest son of Albert Evans and his wife Emily (nee Frost.

He enlisted in the Northants Territorial Force on 11 November 1913. At the time of enlisting he was employed as a Shoehand for Roodhouse & Son in Daventry.

He embarked with BEF on 29 July 1915 aboard HMT Royal George and disembarked from HMT Alania at Alexandria on 18 Dec 1915.

He was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps and saw action at Gallipoli and later in the Middle East at the battles of Sharon.

He was awarded the 1914-1915 Bronze Star on 13 March 1921 and received British War Medal and Victory Medal on 2 April 1922.

He married Clara Ellen Elkington in Barby, Northamptonshire on 26 April 1921.

He died in his sleep in Rugby, Warwickshire on 12 January 1976.
