Richard's Story

My great great grandfather, Richard Walters, was born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire around 1880. He had an older brother called William Walters, who also joined the Sherwood Foresters and also fought in WW1. Believe he was killed in 1915. My great great grandfather, Richard, was firstly injured, recovered and was sent back to the trenches in France where he was subsequently Killed In Action on 4 August 1917.

He is buried and remembered at a Ware Cemetery in France.

Before he was killed he married Sara (nee Bullock) also from Chesterfield and they went on to have children, one of whom was my grandfather, Arthur Walters who was born in 1911. Sara married again in later life.
