Joseph's Story
He was of medium height, very dark hair with brown eyes. I did not know him but past relatives speak of him as a lovely individual. Worked as a miner and then enlisted at the age of 46 as a tunneller in the Royal Engineers. Nobody knew of his war service until a couple of years ago when I was researching the family tree. During the 20s he walked from Bristol to Cardiff to try to find work. Every Saturday afternoon he would take my dad (aged 5) for a walk to the local church, and set his pocket watch by the church clock. They would then buy a bag of broken biscuits and eat going home. Wish we knew more of the family history.
