Phillip's Story
Phillip Clifford 1879-1914, Pte, South Wales Borderers. Son of John and Eliza (nee Morgan). He is one of 3 great Uncles who served and died in WWI. Three of my grandparents lost a brother in that conflict and both my grandfathers served too.
I am fairly certain that Phillip, like his brother David, enlisted in the South Wales Borderers and served with them in the 2nd Boer War. I do not know the circumstances in which he served in WWI but I know he was killed in the 1st Battle of Ypres on the 21st October 1914, aged 25. All 3 of my great Uncles who served, died at Ypres but in different regiments and different times.
Unfortunately I do not have any photos of Great Uncle Phillip.
