James's Story
James Amos was one of my Great Grandmother's brothers. He was born in 1882 in Mold, Flintshire, North Wales. The son of a miner, he moved with most of the family to the Durham coalfield as child. By the age of 12 he was working like many boys down the pits. In October 1914 he enlisted in the Army at the age of 31 year 11 months. 15 months later on 31st January 1916 he was killed in Belgium aged 33. His grave is at Dickebusch.
We know little of him and the life he had. However we remember him for the ultimate courageous sacrifice that he and many others made.
