Oliver's Story
My great grandad Oliver Ormrod joined the territorial army before he joined the Loyal Lancashire Regiment.It was on the very same day he was sent to the war in France/Belgium that he was killed the story we are to believe was that he took a direct hit from a shell and no body was ever found not even his name tag to identify him, to this day we have never been able to visit a grave bearing his name all we know is that his name is etched on the memorial at Therpval and that he was awarded two medals for his services during the war.
It was my great grandads wedding anniversary on the day he died on the 9th sept 1916 and just 6 days after his birthday he was 30.Like many he neva got to see his children grow up and left behind a widow whos former name was Hall.
Was my great grandad perhaps one of the 35,000 British soldiers whose bodies where neva found will i ever know what really happened to him,to his family he is our hero and we will always remember him and carry his name with pride.
