Robert's Story
My Grandpa, was a runner in WW1 , and who died aged 99, despite being gassed in the trenches and invalided home.
A Happy Story
He married my Grandma, on 22/2/22, and they lived a happy and comfortable life, until her untimely death, from cancer in the 1970s.
My happiest memory of my Grandpa was when my father (his son-in-law) bought him a motorbike identical to the one he used in WW1 to take messages to and from the front, and he happily zipped up and down our Scottish borders road with his leather helmet flying in the wind and the beige trench coat flapping in the wind at terrific speeds - at 70!! (I think the elder female members of the family had quite a lot to do with the bike only being operational for a short while!!)
