John's Story
Private Milligan, who was recorded a magnificent reception thanked all most warmly for the kindness they had shown, and Major Dudgeon for the kind words he had spoken. I n what he had done, he had only performed his duty and he could assure them there were none of his comrades who would not have done the same had the opportunity arisen. He could not forget the boys who had fallen in the fight for King and Country. A soldier always touched his cap for a comrade and he did the same, because many a soldier now lay in the grave who had done deeds that merited the Victoria Cross. (applause).
Rev G.M.Gibb Lochend United Free Church of which church the Milligan family are members spoke a few congratulatory words, and the company afterwards joined in “He’s a jolly good fellowâ€Â.
On the call of Mr Lornie, three cheers were given for Major Dudgeon.
Songs were rendered by Miss A. Gilchrist, Miss Erskine,Miss Jack,Mr Campbell and Mr Young, the accompaniments being by Miss Niven.
A most enjoyable dance followed.
