Benjamin's Story

Benjamin Ford was killed in action on 8 March 1916 in Mesopotamia. Remembered with Honour BASRA Memorial

A few days before my grandmother gave birth, she received a letter which simply said "If the baby is a girl, call her Alice".

Alice Ford was born 1 May 1916.

We have no photographs only this story which will live on, in particular with Benjamins great great grandson, Benjamin and his sister Alice.

Benjamin was awarded the Victory Medal, British War Medal and the 1915 Star, also termed as Pip, Squeak and Wilfred.

Benjamins brother Walter, also died in the Great War
