William James's Story

William died on HMS Louvain in the Mediterranean Sea. He was the older brother of my grandfather Ted (Albert Edward) who died aboard HMS Hood when she was sunk in 1941. They had eight siblings (5 boys and 5 girls in all) who grew up in Gosport, Hampshire. They both followed family tradition and joined the Royal Marines. Their father George Spratt Viney (I) originally came from Dorset, he served in the Boer war in Africa.
