Hugh's Story
Visiting the war grave of my husband's grandfather, Hugh Watson, in France two years ago was very emotional for both my husband (also Hugh) and myself. We had recently had access to some of his correspondence to his Mother from France and this made us determined to visit the grave and pay our respects to an unknown grandfather.
A letter, from the Chaplain and dated 21/8/17 reads... "the Battalion went into the trenches on Thursday evening, July 26th, and remained there for 8 days. It was during that tour that Private Watson and two others were standing together at a listening post when a shell dropped in their midst and all three were killed instantaneously....."
