My grandfather Ernest M. Robinson was working for the Hickey-Freeman company in Rochester, N.Y., when he volunteered in January 1917. He went to Toronto to enlist in a Canadian regiment. His family was from Darlington, Co. Durham.
He was captured on 14 Oct. 1918 in Courrières (Lens). He was by then a 2nd Lieutenant in the 8th London Regiment. A "Kriegsgefangenensendung" was sent to his father from the POW camp at Limburg a. d. Lahn (Hesse) on 15 Oct. 1918. He was then moved to the officers camp at Kamstigall bei Pillau (today: Baltiysk).
The picture is taken from "Quality Journal - issued monthly by the employees of Hickey-Freeman Company, Service Number, Vol. III, Rochester, N. Y., June, 1918, No. 2".
