Francis William Percy's Story

Spent his twenty first birthday in a trench crying with toothache

He was gassed we believe at Ypres but never spoke of it. He had stomach problems all his life as a result. He spent his twenty first birthday in a trench crying with toothache at 'wipers'[Ypres]. Percy was invalided out of war and married my grandmother dressed in his army uniform in 1916.
