Stephen George's Story
Stephen Holman was my great-great uncle. He joined the Royal Sussex Regiment, and his first entry into the theatre of war was France on 13th August 1915.
He was later a member of the Machine Gun Corps (infantry) regimental number 84406. He was killed in German East Africa, aged 23 on 30th October 1917. He was buried in Mingoyo Cemetary and later transferred to Dar Es Salam War Cemetary in Tanzania.
It makes me very sad to think that a local Sussex village boy, who lived at home with his parents working as a carpenter for the local village builders before the War, now lays to rest such a very long way from home.
