George Samuel's Story
He lost his life at sea in that dreadful battle, so there was no grave to visit.
My Uncle George was a dearly loved husband, son and brother. He was one of eight children, one of whom was my mother. I never knew George, but my mother often spoke about the lovely brother that they lost so tragically. His mother, my grandmother, apparently never came to terms with his death. George was lost on HMS Turbulent at the Battle of Jutland on 1 June 1916. He lost his life at sea in that dreadful battle, so there was no grave to visit, just the horror of receiving that dreaded telegram. Rest in peace George.
