James's Story
He left for the war when I was three months; he came home when I was six years old.
My most vivid memory is the one of my dad coming home on leave before his discharge. He left for the war when I was three months; he came home when I was six years old. I remember him jumping off the train, dropping his kitbag and picking me up and kissing me. He carried me all the way home from the train station. Even while he was greeting my brothers he never put me down.
