Thomas's Story

I never met my Great Grandfather, he died well before I was born but my Dad remembers him and how he never once spoke about what he did in WW1, it wasn't until recently that I found his pension records and pieced together what happened to him.

Respected Man

KINGS OWN REGIMENT LANCS Regimental No 19653 Enlisted 21.7.1915 (Previous Army record Regiment 3 BAFK O.R.L Regimental No 9429) Posted duty 21.7.1915 at Plymouth Rank Private (by 1918 was Regimental Sargent) Left England 25.10.1915 possibly for Gallipolli, Helles. Evacuated to Port Said 13.2.1916 Disembarked Basra 27.2.1916 During a night attack on a position near Sannaiyat, he was wounded in the left thigh by a Turkish Shell and was Invalided to India by H.T. Elephanta from Basra 10.4.1916 Suffered also from Ischmeetal Abscess.
