James's Story
I always wear my poppy with pride thinking of my great-grandad.
My great-grandad James McGreevyÂs name can be found on Preston's Roll of Honour in the Harris Library, Preston. He was a private in the 1st/5th Battalion, The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, and died in France on 29 July 1917, aged just 36. His widow (my great-grandma) was called Mary Elizabeth (nee Dobson), and they had three children. They lived in Queen Street, Preston. My grandad Richard McGreevy was only a boy of eight when his father died. James is buried in Ypres in the Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery - I would love to visit his grave one day. I am so proud of him. I always wear my poppy with pride thinking of my great-grandad.
