James's Story

James Wakelam was born in Dudley in 1886, the son of Thomas and Sarah Wakelam. He was my grandmother's second husband. She had lost her first husband in a mining accident in 1911. James died on 28th April 1917 at Arras. At the time of his death he was serving with the 10th battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment , having been transferred from the North Staffs Regiment.
