Arthur's Story
Arthur Sabell was a cavalry man who enlisted before the start of world war one. He was badly injured in Belgium in1915 and for him the war came to an end.
He lay for 3 days on a muddy battlefield with one leg blown away and other serious injuries.
He was found by a group of Belgian nuns who entered the battlefield during a brief lull in the fighting.
We have Arthur's letters that he wrote back to his wife from the hospital bed in Belgium.. formal and dignified which the period and his role demanded.
Arthur returned home with one leg and wasted lungs which eventually killed him.
