George's Story

George Sparks volunteered for the Army in 1915 and joined the Army Ordnance Corps, in 1917 he was transferred to the 1st Hampshire Regiment where we was sent and fought in the battle of Passchendaele, like so many men George was seriously wounded and left for dead, he was eventually found by a German Padre who arranged for him to be taken back to the British lines where he was sent and received treatment, he was repatriated to Britain and honourably discharged in 1918 due to wounds received.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them

George lived for the rest of his life with his disability and would never talk about what happened at Passchendaele other than a few words here and there.

George passed away in 1972 from cancer and is missed by all his family who knew him
