John's Story
He was a cobbler in Mitcham and ran his own shop which his wife, Eliza ran when he was called up. I think he was with the Norfolk regiment and worked with the horses, making and repairing the Saddles and Harnesses but I am trying to get all the details.
The gassing took its toll and the shop had to be sold as he could not fully work. The family ended up having to sell everything before there was any hope of assistance.
Many died long after the war from its effects but there is no memorial to them.
