George Husband's Story
My maternal grandfather was a volunteer in the Boer War, serving in the Imperial Yeomanry. His Queens South Africa Medal has 5 clasps, showing the areas & actions he was involved with.
Gallipoli 1915
On the troopship SS Tagus, going to South Africa, he jumped overboard to try to save a member of the crew, who had fallen in the ocean. Both were ultmately recued by the ships boat, and Millar received the Royal Humane Society Silver Medal for his courage. (the citation mentions sharks circling the ships boat as the two men were hauled aboard)
He joined the 2nd Scottish Horse on 28th October 1914, and later was sent to the Dardenelles.
He was reported wounded on the 9th November 1915, and succumbed to his wounds 2 days later.
He is buried at reen Hill Cemetry in Gallipoli, leaving a wife and daughter aged 3 years
