Richard's Story
My grandfather, Richard Jennings was one of the earliest casualties of the war. He was killed at the Battle of Heligoland on board H.M.S."Liberty" on Friday 28th August 1914. Age 29. He is buried in Shotley (St. Mary) Churchyard, Suffolk in a Commonwealth War Grave.
My mother, who never remembered her father, was only two years old and she stayed with her grandmother whilst her mother had to work in the Sail Loft in Chatham Dockyard.
