William's Story

I have only recently discovered that my grandfather, William Kerr, fell at the Battle of the Somme on 4th July 1916. Amongst my mothers' possessions, I found a postcard sent to her mother which was dated 1st July 1916 - the day the Battle of the Somme began. It stated that he was well and would write soon. He never did. This was his last letter to my grandmother.

Gone but not forgotten.
