Andrew's Story
A. E. Harvey was born in 1897 and enlisted at Stratford on Oct 17th 1914 aged seventeen. He spent the first few years at home serving with the Army Service Corps. In 1917 he was transferred to the 6th battalion Royal West Kent Regiment and shipped to France. He took part in the battle of Cambrai where he received a gun shot wound and was sent back to England. He returned to France in 1918 where during an attack at Aveluy he was shot again. After spending four months in Hospital he was finally demobilized in Feb 1919.
At some time during his spell in France he received a commendation from Major-General Scott who commanded the 12th Division for distinguishing himself in the field of battle. What this was for I do not know as my Grandad never spoke about the war. I guess it will have to remain a mystery.
