Frederick's Story

Frederick Sheffield had been a professional soldier. He joined the Leicestershire Regiment on 20th August 1904. Whilst serving at Poonamalle in India, he undertook a course of Instruction in Physical Training, this he passed with a First Class Degree of Proficiency on 28th October 1908. By the time WW1 was declared he was in the reserves. He married Florence Amelia in July 1914, soon after he was called to France. He did manage to get back to see his daughter, who was born in May 1915. Alas that was the one and only time. He fell at Ypress on March 3rd 1916.
