George's Story
George re-enlisted into the 1st Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment aged 40. He had previously been a regular soldier in the same battalion for 12 years, taking part in the Defence of Ladysmith during the Boer War. After serving at the on the western front for 5 months in 1915, he was taken prisoner at the start of the battle of Loos in september 1915, and was held at 3 different pow camps, before being repatriated just in time for new years 1919.
