Daniel's Story

Daniel Mclachlan Imrie was a former pupil of Dollar Academy. Upon leaving the Academy in 1908 he joined a firm of Glasgow tea importers who subsequently sent him to Assam to assist in running a tea plantation. Shortly after the outbreak of WW1, he returned home and was commissioned into the Glasgow Yeomanry as a 2nd Lieutenant. Latterly, he was attached to the HLI during the 3rd battle of Ypres. During the evening of 15th November 1917, he was asleep when a shell burst near him, injuring him so severely that he died of his wounds the following day. He is buried in the Military Cemetery at Mendinghem, Belgium.
