William Henry's Story

My Great-Grandfather whose story I came across whilst researching my family tree.

Mobilised to France in August 1914 seeing action at the battle of and retreat from Mons where he was wounded in action. Upon his recovery, he returned to France and fought with distinction at the battles of Hill 60, the Somme, Ypres, Lens Cambrai and the Somme (II). He was gassed in 1916 and discharged in 1919. He was awarded the Mons Star, the General Service Medal and the Victory Medal.
