A. Stephen's Story
Grandpa was shot through the chest at the Battle of the Somme in 1916 just after he had received his commission as a Lieutenant in the Suffolk Regiment. He convalesced at Le Touquet for over a year before being transferred, we believe, to the Royal Victoria Hospital at Netley, Southampton. He married in May 1918 and resumed his career as a teacher, but was later ordained as a priest in 1932 at the age of 41. He was an amazing man with an amazing mind. He survived all of his children to live to the age of 103 when he died on the 1st birthday of his great grandson Thomas Jeffery Kinch with his mind as bright as ever. He is still much missed by me and my brother and sisters. At the age of 39 I was his next of kin when he died.
A much-loved Father and Grandpa
