Charles Henry's Story
My Grandpa was just 17 when he joined up in 1914 (he lied about his age). He spent the majority of the war in the battlefields of France.
He fought in both Wold Wars
At the age of 18 years he became the youngest recipient of the Military Medal for bravey in the field. He was in the Battle of the Somme and under heavy bombardment all senior officers were unfortunately killed or missing, he took it upon himself to lead all the surviving troops from his regiment through the trenches to re-group and to fight another day.
