Fredrick J's Story

Fred was in the Royal Engineers 74th Div. Signal Coy. and when home on leave with his friend they would tap messages to each other at the supper table. He left for the last time from Hitchin station and a letter asks him Mum not to come and see him off. He would find it too hard to say goodbye along with all the other soldiers. He was killed in Belgium on 1st Nov. 1918 by an exploding shell and is burried at Tournai Communial Cemetery Allied Extension. I only know about him through my grandmother and what she told me about him.
