John's Story

After a short period of training John was posted to the western front for active duty.

John Lee was born in 1899, the son of a watercress labourer. In December 1917, at the age of 17 years, he joined the Queens Own Royal West Surrey Regiment. After a short period of training John was posted to the western front for active duty. In August 1918, John was wounded in his right shoulder, at or near Cambrai. He was then invalided to England where he received treatment at a hospital in Fazakerley, Liverpool. On recovery he was demobilised in February 1919.
