William Arthur's Story
William Arthur Place of 11th Battalion of Sherwood Foresters died on 1st July 1916 on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Sadly there is no marked grave but he is remembered at Thiepval Memorial. He left a wife Salome and 4 children, Doris (my grandmother) Arnold, Harold and William.
RIP great grandad... your name lives on in your grandson and great great grandson.
