Percy's Story

The Nicholls family lived in Murray Road South Ealing, Middlesex.

Percy Nicholls died on the first day of the battle of the Somme.

His brother William (my Grandfather) moved to Darwin Road South Ealing on his marriage. My mother, (Percy's niece) was not born until six years after his death. I have only recently discovered information about Percy via a small memorial card amongst family documents.

Research has shown that he is mentioned on the great memorial at Thiepval in France, one of the soldiers whose remains were never found.

There is also a missing 'Tommy' on my father's side of the family. His name is Thomas West and he came from Brentford. All I know is that he died in Flanders and I am still trying to find more information on him so that one day I can visit both memorials.
