George's Story

George served as a company runner from 1914 to 1916 when due to the effects of being gassed he was given an honourable discharge. He had been wounded twice previously once in the finger and shrapnal to the head. Company runners were at high risk running between the lines with important messages, before telephone or other communications were used.
