Arthur John's Story

Arthur John Davies, my great uncle was born in Clun 1892, was educated in Clun and attended the local Methodist Chapel until at least 1910/11 joining the army in 1915. It is known that he moved about a bit during 1911-14, including staying at Longton, Staffordshire, and Edensor, Derbyshire.

He willing joined up to fight for his country

He died Saturday 16 Sept 1916 reported killed in action.

He received the The 1914/15 Star, Victory Medal and the British War Medal. The family do not know what happeded to his medals. His name appears on the Thiepval memorial, the memorial to the missing of the Somme. Arthur was one of many whose body was never recovered.
