William's Story

My Dad despite all the horrors he saw in his 4 years always had a happy outlook

My Dad did not talk much about the horrors he saw but I did ask him how he got to become an acting sergent major his reply was all the n.c.o kept getting killed so he kept getting promoted. Never ever had a proper bath during his time he used to pick the lice etc. off his body after 6 months up to your waist in water. You just tried to get through that moment never any thought about tomorrow. He worked at Bromley by bow gasworks all his life till his retirement. He had 5 Children William, Albert, Maise, Grace, and myself (Ted).
