Arthur's Story
Arthur was never spoken about my grandmother (his sister) who gave me his medals when I was a boy. I subsequently found out he was a volunteer with the Prince of Wales' Own Civil Service Rifles and died on the first day of a major offensive on 15th September 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Theipval memorial.
My father was named Arthur in his memory. I only discovered the photo last year when I visited my aunt.
Killed during the Battle of the Somme 15 September 1916 at High Wood.
